AEEM 2013: Introduction to Systems Engineering

Systems engineering is a multidisciplinary field that focuses on designing and managing complex systems. It involves considering all aspects of a system, including its technical, operational, and managerial components, to ensure that it meets its intended purpose and goals. Systems engineers work on a wide range of projects, from developing spacecraft and aircraft to creating software systems and telecommunications networks. In this course, we focus on optimization as it plays a crucial role in systems engineering. It involves finding the best possible solution to a given problem, given a set of constraints and objectives. This course will introduce unconstrained and constrained optimization techniques and basic system properties to understand how systems engineering can improve system performance, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and meet design requirements.
